Detox has been such an overused word diluting its core meaning that originally referred to cellular or systemic organ detoxification (rather than a skin detox or taking a special tea or having a massage or even detox through diet, all of which cannot be dismissed but are undeniably slow in results, rather shallow in cellular chemistry and with not necessarily sustainable results)
Fasting has also been a misused term. Fasting does not in any way involve solid food and in fact it does not involve full strength juices as they are calorically-speaking full meals and perpetuate glucose processing ( which needs to be interrupted for fasting to work). Fasting is by far the most powerful, deep, quick and extensive systemic detox healing process.
Colonics is a generalised term which includes on its scope, a) colonic irrigation by gravity or pressurised water administered by someone, b) enema bags used at home or c) colema-board gravity systems self-administered.
Colonic irrigation has been usually associated and practiced as stand-alone unrelated to fasting supervised sessions (which barely removes fecal matter with no systemic detox component to it). The colema-based system has been by far the most used in most detox retreats for the last 25 years and is by far superior due to the combination of the natural gravity flow, the quantity of water, the privacy of self-administration and the affordable operational cost.
Fasting & Colonic Detox is a truly deep cellular systemic detoxification because it completes the benefits of releasing toxins into the bloodstream caused by fasting WITH the colonic benefits to remove quickly, safely & comfortably these toxins from the system before become reabsorbed into a re-intoxication loop. Fasting without colonics, or other forms of physical detox avenue (like long hours intensive sauna sessions) becomes very tolling in terms of the detox reactions and can occasionally become dangerous. This is why when we simply stop eating we go crazy, have headaches, feeling dizzy or weak etc. We experience detox reactions seeking an exit door.

– The detox fasting field was initiated by a handful of 5 detox retreats worldwide in the mid-late 1990’s . Health Oasis resort has been one of these pioneers since 1997.
– There are currently approximately 70 detox-fasting retreats worldwide.
– We estimate that the total number of people who have experienced a detox program anywhere in the world is about 250,000 – see breakdown below
– The expenditure by these detox clients towards these programs has exceeded $ 500 million
– The market has been growing steadily over the years and with the exception of the recent pandemic, it has been immune to financial crises, wars, SARS, coups, not following tourism industry fluctuations – due to the unique client profile
THAILAND MARKET
– About 75% of all the detox retreats are located in Thailand, 70% in SE Thailand, 55% in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan area and 15% in Phuket area.
– The industry has grown in Thailand, due to its climate, rather relaxed set-up regulations and cost of programs, forming an international travel detox market as the most attractive option available and has stayed as such for the last 2 decades.
– The Health Oasis Resort has been instrumental in the establishment & growth of that industry in Thailand attracting the establishment of similar businesses around it.
– Based on the number of 20,000 detox clients we have had over the last 23 years and another 60,000 who have enquired but not visited us, plus the number of the other Thai based detox retreats and their respective capacity & occupancy, we estimate that Thai based detox retreats have attracted another 140,000-150,000 people, making the Thai detox market to be around 160,000-170,000 proven customers who have experienced first-hand a detox program
OTHER LOCATIONS
– We estimate 3 detox centers & other sporadic retreats, operating in other Asian locations, Bali, The Philippines & India, have attracted over the years another 15,000 clients
– USA based detox retreats since the mid-90s another 40,000-50,000
– Portugal since 1998 & Spain another 15,000
– Periodic or sporadic detox retreats worldwide like in Costa Rica, Mexico, Australia, Turkey, have attracted another 10,000
THE CHINESE DETOX FASTING & WEIGHT-LOSS MARKET
– Over the last 20 years Thailand-based retreats have attracted an ever-increasing number of Chinese nationals and China-HK based foreign expats who would visit Thailand exclusively for that reason.
– The recent Covid-19 situation and the restrictions in international travelling have adversely affected these Thailand based retreat operations as well as their Chinese clients.
– There are no such retreats or programs offered in China. These clients can no longer satisfy their detox & weight-loss programs needs in that manner. That demand cannot currently be met unless an Chinese based operation offers attractive & credible options.
– So with a total absence of supply for a proven demand, the market is literally virgin and the proposed detox fasting & weight-loss retreat can operate in a competition-free environment.
– Based on the number of Chinese & China-HK based foreign expatriates who have experienced a detox program in our retreat, other retreats in Thailand or Bali over the years, we estimate that the Chinese market represents the 5%-6% of the global one, which is 8,500-10,000 people with direct experience of it. About 12% of them have been our own previous clients.
The rest have experienced detox-fasting with colonics in other centers in Thailand and some in Bali. This market is very solid, active and the majority are repeat customers. They have been willing over the years to travel to Thailand for a detox fasting program of an average length of 10 days. Gender-wise they are about 70% female – 30% male among the Chinese nationals and 55% female – 45% male among the expats with age groups concentrated in a range between 30 to 45
– Even if our Chinese based detox fasting & weight-loss retreat only captures 3.5%-4% of that market, that would translate in 300-400 people. This would safely & comfortably assure a 45% profit margin – solely from the health operations, without considering the additional hosting/accommodation component of this new target group.
– It is our estimate that we would potentially capture 3-4 times the size of that market – meaning 1,000 people annually, especially taking into consideration the huge & growing untapped middle & upper class Chinese population
